How I Became a Freelancer While Being a Full-Time Mom My Real Story

MOTHERHOOD & FREELANCING

A mother’s journey of letting go, starting over, and learning you don’t have to choose between being a great mom and building something of your own.

My 16-year-old and my 11-year-old handed me a bouquet and a card this Mother’s Day. I just smiled and held it close.

Because in that one moment, 16 years flashed right in front of me.

I remembered the girl who was working a full-time job, about to get married, standing at the start of something she could not fully see yet. Life felt uncertain. The future felt big. And I had no idea how much was about to change.

When my first son was born, I made the decision to leave my job and give everything to him. Those years were beautiful but they were not easy. There was exhaustion. There was self-doubt. There were days I wondered if I had quietly given up on myself without even realising it.

Some days I asked myself am I only a mother now? Or is there still something that belongs just to me?

When he turned 3, something in me was ready again. I started freelancing. Slowly, carefully while still being fully present at home. It was not perfect. Some days work won, some days home won. But I kept showing up for both.

Then my second child came and life got busier. But by then I had learned something important.

You do not have to choose between being a great mother and building something of your own. You just have to be patient with yourself while you figure out how to do both.

Today, looking at these two wonderful humans who call me Mom, I feel something I cannot fully put into words. Pride. Gratitude. And a kind of quiet fullness.
Their gift was beautiful. But what it reminded me of was even more beautiful.

To every mother out there who is somewhere in the middle of it all still figuring it out, still trying to balance everything while holding yourself together…

You are not behind. You are not lost. You are just in the middle of your story. Keep going. 💪
